Feed-in Tariffs
Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) are government schemes that reward people who produce their own heat or electricity through renewable or low carbon energy generators. Feed-in Tariffs are available for ‘generation’ and ‘export’. The former provides payment for every kWh of electricity produced, whether you use it or not, while the latter gives you an additional payment for every unit sold back to the grid. RHI pay a fixed income for every kWh of heat produced by a renewable or low carbon generator. The tariff is fixed by the government and applies to specific technology.
